Coverage is uneven — these are community-mapped borders, and a territory absent from a slice may simply not be drawn yet rather than not have existed. The map is cut at 60°S, so Antarctic claims are not shown; territories appear under whoever administered them, which is why Australia covers Papua New Guinea in 1960.
